Strategic Goals

The American Heart Association is a national voluntary health agency whose mission is "Building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke."

Battles against heart disease and stroke are being fought on many fronts, but the only way to win the war is to ensure that public health policies are in place to give Americans access to appropriate treatment, provide resources for innovative biomedical research, and promote programs to prevent disease.

Learn how Congress can reduce disability and death from the nation’s leading killers by visiting our Policymaker Resource Center. Policy makers and legislators can make a difference in fighting these devastating diseases!

Learn About Our Issues
The American Heart Association's legislative advocacy efforts move us closer to our goal of reducing heart disease, stroke and risk by 25 percent by the year 2010. Learn about key policy issues including research and prevention funding, access to quality health care, stroke, tobacco control, obesity, emergency cardiovascular care, physical activity and nonprofit issues.
